9 Ways to Have Stress Free Holidays

1. Make your “To Do Lists Now” (try to have done at least 2 – 3 weeks in advance)

  • Make a list of people you need to buy gifts for and amount you are spending. Keep it with you so if you are doing other shopping and you see something that would be great for someone on your list you can mark it off. Consider shopping online and through catalogs.
  • Make a list of parties you are attending. If you need to bring something (a dish to pass etc.) plan ahead for ingredients you’ll need. Don’t wait until the last minute.
  • Make a list of parties or get-togethers you are hosting. Have a complete list of everything you will need to do and have on hand for the party. Example: Centerpiece – Holly greens, candles, berries, ornaments, wire. Punch – Fruit Punch, 7-up, pineapple juice, sparkling grape juice. Hors d’oeurves – pita bread, cream cheese, green onions, sliced ham. Holiday plates, cups, napkins, glasses, silverware, etc. You get the picture. The more complete your list the easier it is to remember everything.

2. SPEND TIME DOING THINGS WITH YOUR CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN. Kids keep the magic in Christmas. Plan a special event that can become your holiday tradition.
3. Cut down on the people you buy for. This is a tough one. Don’t spend more than you can afford or you’ll be stressed after the holidays paying off debts. Ask yourself, “why am I buying for this person?” I know people that have been exchanging gifts for years, neither want to exchange anymore, but each is afraid to say something to the other person. Speak up! Consider drawing names rather than buying for everyone in the family.
4. It’s about more than just presents! Remember that it’s a season. Celebrate every day! Use your Christmas china the whole month of December, not just on Christmas. Put your tree up early so you can enjoy it! If you decorate outside do it before it gets bitterly cold.
5. Don’t make all the cookies yourself. Do a “cookie exchange” with friends, family and co-workers. Have each person make 1 to 2 dozen cookies for each member in the exchange. You’ll end up with a wide assortment of cookies with very little effort.
6. Take some time for yourself each week. “NO FEELING GUILTY”!
Take a bubble bath and surround yourself with candles.
Read a good Christmas story. My favorites are “The Christmas Shoes” and “The Christmas Box”
See a Christmas play or concert
Take a night away with your spouse or friend
Go sledding, skating or play in the snow (if there is any)
Take an afternoon nap (and don’t feel guilty)
Write a letter (not E-mail) to a friend you haven’t seen in awhile
Get your hair and or nails done
7. Don’t worry about the after Christmas sales. (I can’t believe I used to get up at 5:00 a.m. just to go shopping the day after Christmas.) Now there are just as many good sales before Christmas as there are after.
8. Get in touch with “your inner self”. Take time to list all the fantastic things you have accomplished this past year. Make your goals and plans for the next year.
9. Volunteer. When we see others who are less fortunate than we are it helps us to keep everything is perspective. Add the less fortunate to your list and help with toy and food donations. Remember, “it is better to give than to receive”.
Use these suggestions and enjoy the holiday season.

Want to Know How You Can Get More Recruits?

Are you ready to grow your direct selling team? Do you want to know how to get more recruits?

Just watch this short video

Who’s Customer Is It?

I had a conversation with a hair stylist who had a few ladies approach her about doing their hair. She was reluctant to provide services because they frequented the salon she was at but had always done business with another stylist. Both were dissatisfied with their current stylist and wanted to switch WHICH IS THEIR RIGHT! Being such a nice person and not wanting to cause a scene she turned down the potential clients in order to keep peace. BIG MISTAKE!!!

Why is this a big mistake? Because when I asked her a few months later if these women had been back to the salon she said, “No.” In fact both of them had went elsewhere and found someone else in other salons to do business with.

So, when is a customer, really your customer?  When THEY ARE HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE YOU ARE PROVIDING! That’s it!  When someone is happy with the level of service you are providing for them THEY WILL NOT LEAVE! When they are dissatisfied it’s THEIR RIGHT to go and do business elsewhere. They are NOT being disloyal to you, they are LOOKING FOR SOMETHING or SOMEONE who will provide the level of service they desire.

In direct selling (and many other industries) salespeople put a tag on someone as soon as they make a sale. “THIS IS MY CLIENT -HANDS OFF!” Sales people with Lack Mentalities believe they need to put a net around everyone and often complain to their upline or company because someone else sold product or booked a party with another consultant. The big complaint being, “She bought (or booked) from me first so she’s my client!

Hey, do you take time to look into why someone CHOSE not to do business with you again? It could be as simple as she attended her friends party and wanted to help her friend by purchasing and booking a party. OR, it could be because after her last party you didn’t do any follow up. She had a few situations that needed to be handled and after the party you were nowhere to be found.  Sounds ridiculous I know, but the truth is if you spent just as much time keeping your customers as you did getting new ones you’d have a thriving business.

People like to do business with people they know, like and trust and who will provide them with great service.  Work hard to get new customers and hostesses but work even harder to KEEP THEM! Here’s a few simple things you can do to keep customers and hostesses LOYAL to YOU!

1.  Send a Thank You for ordering or a Thank You for Hosting note! Yes, it’s true people DO LIKE TO BE APPRECIATED! It’s so rare in these times for anyone to take time to send a thank you card.  Send Out Cards can be used for any business or The Booster which provides products only for direct sales.

2. Follow up with customers after they have received their product or a few weeks after they have been using their products to make sure everything is okay. This can be done with a quick email or a phone call. The busier you are the less you will have time for phone calls so follow up with an email or another card or note. Make sure you ask if everything is okay and also ask them to call you if there is anything they need help with.

3. Birthdays are a great way to recognize people and put your name in front of them again. Send your Hostess a Birthday card with a coupon for a discount or a Free Gift.

4.  Send Thanksgiving Cards to your Hosts instead of Christmas cards which can get lost in the clutter.  Again, Send Out Cards allows you to store lists and a quick click will soon have you sending an appreciation card to everyone on the list.

5. Make verbal contact by telephone with every host at least every 6 months. Let them know what the current specials are and also some of the new release items they may be interested in.

6. Send a new catalog to your best hosts. This is a big investment on your part and one that I did in my business. When a new catalog came in I would mail about 100 catalogs to my special hosts. These were hosts who had high party sales or who booked at least once each year. I wanted to make sure they didn’t receive a catalog from someone else first! The several hundred dollar investment on my part gained me thousands of dollars in commission each year. Oh yeah, some of you may want to skimp by sending an electronic version but let me ask you a question. When is the  last time you put your computer in the magazine rack? Out of sight, out of mind!

7. Survey your hosts and customers on what you can do to provide better service for them.  You can’t fix anything you don’t know is broken.

Building a Loyalty Based business is not hard. Be nice, be appreciative, be concerned, and stay in touch. You customers and hosts will begin to say, “thanks, but I already have a consultant who provides me with great service. I don’t need to switch!”

Are you a Thinker, Doer or Avoider?

How you handle new information tells a lot about what type of person you are and how well you will do in business and in life.

What do you do with the information you learn?

1. Review it, think about it, review it again, think about if it will work and what will happen if it doesn’t and implement only if you think everything will work out well?

2. Review it, implement the information as soon as you can and hope for the best. After implementation review and make changes if necessary.

3. Review the information and discard it because it’s too difficult to change what you are already doing or because you DO NOT TRUST the source?

By answering this question you’ll find out if you are a thinker#1, a doer#2 or an avoider #3. Here’s a little tip. Most of the great successes in life are doers! You can have brilliant mind and no money if you never take action on what you learn!

Implementation is the Key to Success and the missing link for most people who wander aimlessly in mediocrity. It’s time to take action NOW!

Well, how did you do?

Total Body and Mind Makeover for Increased Success

This week I am excited to have lost 11 pounds since the beginning of September. I will work really hard to make sure these lost pounds don’t find me again! Laughing I take full responsibility for the added weight because even though I am pretty consistent with my exercise program I notice when I am traveling a lot I often don’t make wise choices when dining out! I’ll plan on just tasting the fries and then before I know it they are all gone.

Since the fantastic call I had with JJ Virgin the end of August I have been using some of her great tips and found they are working well for me. The first thing I did was dump my Splenda and quit diet coke. I never knew that between Splenda and diet soda I was actually increasing my craving for sweets. This has been working great for me and I can now pass by the candy aisle without grabbing a few candy bars for the way home!

The second thing I began was really watching my portion control. I now have 4 – 6 ounces of protein, lots of vegetables and greens and a small serving of complex carbs along with 1 serving of good fat at lunch and dinner. I FEEL GREAT!

The third and probably the most important thing I began was the “burst training” which is going 30 – 60 seconds all out at least 8 times a day. When I’m riding my bike I’ll do a 30 second burst ride for 3 minutes and do another one. What’s good about this is you do not have to do them all at once and I’ve done bursts on my bike and then I may run up the hill on my driveway 3 or 4 times. The bursts have been proven to reset your metabolism and set you up to lose more weight!

Then of course I have really been into motivation and training preparing myself for my BIG EVENT in Las Vegas in two weeks. I have been listening to 1 -2 hours of motivation and training every day! I’m keeping my head on straight so if there are a few bumps along the way they won’t bother me. I’ve also been taking time for me! I’ll sit and watch a movie (comedy or love story) and NOT FEEL GUILTY about it. I’ll get a massage when I need it, take a long hot bath to unwind and just nurture myself!

Last but not least I keep up with all my health needs. I get annual eye tests, physicals, mammograms, and dental check-ups. If I’m not doing what I need to do to maintain my health then nothing else really matters!

So, here’s my challenge to YOU. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO WORK ON IN THE NEXT 30 DAYS? Do you need to drop a little weight? Do you need to work on your mental health? Is it time for you to make your appointments for physicals and things you’ve been procrastinating about? (By the way ladies, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month so make sure you get your mammogram!) Whatever is preventing you from living the full and complete life you were born for is just a tiny obstacle in the grand scheme of things. SO TAKE AT LEAST ONE SMALL STEP TOWARD BECOMING A BETTER YOU RIGHT NOW!

Direct Sellers Often Accused of Stalking People

It’s true! Direct Sellers and Network Marketers are often accused of stalking unsuspecting people, trying to trap them into joining their company. And quite honestly, I have to admit I’ve been the “victim” more than once. The fact I was a victim before helped me to implement a “system” for talking to prospects to “qualify” them to see if they were “right” for the business. Now, I know that many companies and many consultants feel this is ridiculous and just sign up everyone and then “go after them” to get them to work and qualify for you. If this works for you and you want to be known as a “stalker” go for it.  Watch this funny video!

BUT…if you want to have a much more effective way to introduce people to the fantastic opportunity that awaits them and immediately get your new recruit excited to begin his or her new business please do your best to join me in Las Vegas, October 23 – 25 for my Direct Selling Leadership Bootcamp which I promise will be second to none in giving you the complete “Blueprint for Mastering Direct Selling Leadership.”

Stuff Happens!

Last Friday was one of those crazy days where you just wonder what else can go wrong. First of all I don’t like getting up at 5:00 a.m. it’s still DARK, but Larry and I were heading to Jacksonville, FL for a weekend event.

On the way to the airport we had to get off the expressway to avoid an accident which added 20 minutes to the ride. Finally got to the parking structure  and discovered it was backed up because the gates going to the employee section were broken so they couldn’t go anywhere and they were blocking the entrance for commuters. While we were waiting the “low fuel” warning came on.

Finally parked, unloaded the car and as I was rushing to check-in my suitcase got caught in a crack which sent me flying. I picked myself up made it to check in and got to the gate just as they were boarding first class.  (Luckily, Larry and I were upgraded so we got on and settled in. The plane pushed back and we sat and sat. The pilot told us we had mechanical problems so we headed back to the gate for one hour. Finally landed about one hour late went to hotel changed clothes and got down to the meeting with 2 minutes to spare.

The funny thing was, as soon as I walked into the meeting “I was ON!” What about you? Do you ever have days when Murphy’s Law strikes you and everything that can go wrong will go wrong? Maybe you have a party that night and you are thinking to yourself,  “I really don’t want to go” but you go anyway and it’s a great party! Sometimes, stuff happens to us and there is nothing we can do about it.

Things don’t always go the way we plan them but sooner or later you have to come out of hiding, face the world and hop back into whatever your next task is. The rest of weekend was great! So even if your days starts out messy you can still have some success!

3 Simple Secrets for Consistency in Your Life and Your Business

“Whether it is good or bad, when you do something often enough, it will become a habit! Choose your habits wisely!” Karen Phelps

As I was riding my bike up my driveway last week I realized it was a lot harder to get up the driveway than it had been the previous week. After I made it to the top and did my “celebratory drive in a circle” I realized it had been more difficult because with my busy travel schedule I hadn’t rode my bike in 6 days. The consistency of riding my bike 5 days in a row had helped to train my body for performance and then I took too long of a break and I needed to get the edge back again.

That’s when it dawned on me! Everything we do in every aspect of our life becomes easier once we do it consistently enough for it to become a habit! Once you develop a consistent pattern of doing something correctly you will discover how easy it is to achieve your desired results!

I laugh when people tell me they don’t have any habits because the truth is we ALL HAVE HABITS! When they tell me they don’t have any habits they are thinking only of bad or destructive habits, which truth be told, we all have many we just dismiss them! Because you are an entrepreneur it’s important for you to develop goo habits that will help you grow your business! Habits are simply the result of doing something consistently! Doing the “right things” on a consistent basis WILL alter your lifestyle. Here are 3 simple steps to help get you on track.

1. Write down everything you do all day long for 3 days. Wow, if you want a real eye-opener this is it! You’ll be surprised at the amount of time wasted on bad habits. You might discover you have a habit of checking your email every 15 – 20 minutes instead of checking it 3 or 4 times each day. You will also discover that you have developed some GOOD habits, like I have of exercising first thing in the morning, journaling, praying or taking time out to be grateful. The important thing is to look at your list to see if what you are doing daily is adding to your pleasure, your income and your self-improvement or detracting from it.

2. Add activities that will help you grow personally and professionally. If there are several things you do consistently that are not helping you in your life or business it’s time to make a conscious effort to change. I forgot to mention that when I am riding my bike or walking each morning I am also listening to motivational or training programs. I know I need to continually feed my mind with motivating material as well as materials that will help me grow as an entrepreneur. I have done this for over 30 years. It’s consistent it’s a habit and the result is continued Self-Improvement!

3. Quit Waiting for Perfection! JUST DO IT! Like the Nike commercial I am a firm believer that it’s time to Just do it! Some people avoid doing things because they are waiting to get good at it and they fail to realize the way to get good at it is to do it! Wow, it doesn’t get much simpler than that. I have had new consultants tell me they can’t start holding parties because they don’t know enough yet and my answer is simple, “You’ll learn everything you need to know once you begin to hold your parties. Come and watch me do a couple and then go do your own and we’ll talk about them when you get home until we fine-tune your presentation so you are getting sales, bookings and recruit leads from every party.” ACTION = RESULTS

So don’t wait for the perfect moment to begin your diet or exercise program. Don’t wait for the right time of the month to make your phone calls for bookings. Start doing what you need to do now and do it every day over and over again until through consistency you master that which at first seemed impossible! The world is waiting for you to take the next step!

Direct Sellers Need to Let Go of Limiting Beliefs

“What’s real to you today is based on your past experiences. If you limit your future based on your past you won’t go anywhere. You have to have goals big enough to drive you and excite you!”

This is what I heard one morning as I was listening to Tony Robbins during my daily bike ride.
Tony was talking about goals and the challenge most people have not only setting but achieving their goals.
In my thirty years in direct selling I have come to realize the majority of people set mediocre goals for themselves. Their fear on not being able to reach their goals prevents them from raising the bar! Most people would rather set a comfortable goal and reach it then set a higher goal and miss by a little. How will they ever get better? They won’t!

You must continually set new goals that are loftier than your previous goals and design plans to achieve them. The pursuit of higher goals provides you with a new different reality. If you are continually having the same results it’s most likely because you have been setting the same goals, or worse yet not setting goals at all.
If you are ready to sail a different course here’s what you need to do.

1. Write it down. What do you want? Do your want to earn your company trip or contest? Do you want to advance in leadership rank with your company? Do you want to double your leadership bonuses this year? Begin now creating a list of what you want to accomplish personally and professionally in the next year.

2. Why do you want it? “Just because” isn’t going to provide you with enough determination to reach your goal when the going gets tough. You need to have a real why for succeeding. I want to earn my company trip to Hawaii so I can provide my husband with a wonderful experience to thank him for all his love and support! I want to earn at least $50,000 per year in leadership bonuses so I can replace the income I am earning in my full-time job so I can stay home with my children. Make sure your why is powerful enough to motivate you!

3. Create the roadmap for your success. What are the steps you need to take in order to make your goal a reality. You need x amount of sales each month and x number of recruits in order to earn the company trip to Hawaii. Break it down month by month, week by week, day by day until you know exactly what you must do in order to make your goal a reality.

4. Picture yourself as if you have already achieved your goal.Close your eyes and visualize the warm sand under your feet, the sound of the waves as they break at the shore, the beautiful palm trees swaying in the breeze. You must immerse yourself in your goal as least once a day in order to keep it real for you. The more real you make it in your mind, the more focused you will become on making sure you do what you need to do to accomplish your goals.

Don’t limit your future based on your past. Create a new, beautiful, exciting future that is filled with hope and promise. Dream, believe, work and achieve. The world is waiting for you to take the next step!
