Lifestyle Freedom With Your Direct Selling Business

I loved having my own successful direct selling business for twenty-five years. The parties were fun, my team was awesome and the money was a whole lot better than I would have been earning from my 9 -5 job! I earned 22 trips around the world and more contest prizes than I ever could have imagined when I first began selling in 1978.

Because, direct selling was so good for me I’m often saddened when consultants tell me they aren’t getting what they want from their business. I love the tenacity, ambition, work ethic and creativity displayed by successful direct sellers. It’s Independence Weekend  and I thought it would be fitting to share a few of the success tips that helped use my direct selling business to provide financial independence as well as the “lifestyle freedom” that is so important to many of us:

1. Set your goals! I know, you’ve been told this over and over and over again and you are probably sick and tired of hearing it. Truth is, if you don’t set your goals you’ll be halfheartedly working your business and shouldn’t expect much success. It’s been proven over and over again, those who have goals do better and EARN MORE!
2. Work Weekly! If you aren’t working your business on a weekly basis it’s just a hobby. Don’t plan monthly activity plan for weekly activity. Hold parties every week. Make follow up calls every week. Interview prospects every week. The consistency you’ll develop by doing things weekly will dramatically increase your sales and your paycheck.
3. Attend Trainings & Meetings! Only foolish people would attempt to begin their business with no training. Only non-committed consultants would continue in the business without support and continuing their education. If you want to succeed you’ll be where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there. NO EXCUSES…Find a Way!
4. Work harder on yourself than you do on your business. It doesn’t matter how hard you try if your attitude is lousy. Most successful people will tell you they work on their attitude and other success habits on a daily basis. Listen to motivational CDs. Listen to training CDs. Talk positively to yourself. Get away from the quick-sand crowd and start hanging out with winners.
5. Do the RIGHT THINGS, the RIGHT WAY. It’s not how much time you spend in your business it’s whether or not you are doing the right things while you are working. You can be busy doing things that won’t bring in income and in that case, you’ll still be broke. Or you can get smart and start doing things the right way. Got lots of party cancellations? People who mail invites for their hostesses experience less than a 20% cancellation rate. Your recruits lazy? People who have successful recruits know what to do to get them off to the best start. You’ve got to do things the RIGHT WAY!
6. Get healthy NOW! It’s hard to get things done fast when your energy is dragging. If you smoke, STOP! (I know it’s easy to say because I’ve never smoked but the truth is…it’s killing you. If you’re over-weight, LOSE IT! I’ve been a Weight Watchers lifetime member for 20 years and I’ve invested in JJ Virgin’s Fat Loss program last year which helped me take off 18 pounds and get healthier in the process. If you don’t exercise, GET MOVING! Doing the right things for your body won’t guarantee that you won’t get sick but you’ll feel much better all the way around and you will usually have greater energy which is a must when you have your own business. If you are too tired or sick to get it done, it usually won’t get done.
7. Invest in Yourself. People who invest in themselves and their business BELIEVE they will be successful. When I come across a product that I know can help me or my business I get it. Not investing in myself is like telling my subconscious, “who are you fooling, you can’t make money doing this?” I already told you to work harder on yourself than you do on your business so don’t let your negative thoughts influence you when making decisions. If you BELIEVE you will succeed you’ll make decisions with an abundance mentality rather than a lack mentality. I provide some of the best motivational and direct selling tools on the planet. Check them out.

I’ve learned that strategies for growing a successful direct selling business are not unique to certain individuals or companies. Success is determined by the use of predictable, repeatable, simple actions but not just any actions – the right actions. The driving force behind your success is YOU! Are you ready for the challenge?

Meeting & Training Success Action Steps

I just returned home from a 4-day training event I attended in Las Vegas and my brain was on overload with all the information I learned in these jam-packed sessions! Has this ever happened to you? Have you attended an event and you listen, take notes and then come home on overload and put the notes away and never get around to making any changes in your life or business? Well, I have to confess that as good as I am at taking control, I often find myself out-of-control after seminars and training because I didn’t take the time to immediately create my action plan with a FEW STEPS I COULD TAKE IMMEDIATELY!

This training was quite an investment on my part so I knew I wanted to get everything I could out of it PLUS MORE! So can I share five secrets on what I did during and after the event to get results?

1. I wrote my notes in the meeting binder so they would be in one place for review instead of writing on my own legal pad and then wondering where I put it! :) Actually had quite a few fill-in-the-blank handouts so it just made sense instead of re-writing everything which I am often inclined to do!

2. Took my “yearly notebook” where I have all my notes for the year as well as goals and list of things to do each week with me to the event. At the end of each day I reviewed my notes and created a list of things that I had to do “this week” and checked to see what needed to go on the list. In other words, anything that was a “must do right away item.”

3. Kept my meeting binder and notebook with me in my carry-on traveling home and re-read ALL MY NOTES from the training! This is very important because we do not retain past 48 hours 95% of the information we hear! During the review process I discovered a few more items that needed to be added to my must do this week list.

4. Numbered my “must do list” from this weekend in order of importance and made sure there were less than 7 things on the list which gives me a much better chance of ACTUALLY GETTING IT DONE!

5. Started doing the things on your list the very next day! DON’T WAIT! The longer you wait the less likely you are to implement what you learned. I’ve discovered over the years the fastest way to success is to implement what you learned immediately into your business. Don’t wait to do it perfectly just get it done!

Stuff Happens!

Last Friday was one of those crazy days where you just wonder what else can go wrong. First of all I don’t like getting up at 5:00 a.m. it’s still DARK, but Larry and I were heading to Jacksonville, FL for a weekend event.

On the way to the airport we had to get off the expressway to avoid an accident which added 20 minutes to the ride. Finally got to the parking structure  and discovered it was backed up because the gates going to the employee section were broken so they couldn’t go anywhere and they were blocking the entrance for commuters. While we were waiting the “low fuel” warning came on.

Finally parked, unloaded the car and as I was rushing to check-in my suitcase got caught in a crack which sent me flying. I picked myself up made it to check in and got to the gate just as they were boarding first class.  (Luckily, Larry and I were upgraded so we got on and settled in. The plane pushed back and we sat and sat. The pilot told us we had mechanical problems so we headed back to the gate for one hour. Finally landed about one hour late went to hotel changed clothes and got down to the meeting with 2 minutes to spare.

The funny thing was, as soon as I walked into the meeting “I was ON!” What about you? Do you ever have days when Murphy’s Law strikes you and everything that can go wrong will go wrong? Maybe you have a party that night and you are thinking to yourself,  “I really don’t want to go” but you go anyway and it’s a great party! Sometimes, stuff happens to us and there is nothing we can do about it.

Things don’t always go the way we plan them but sooner or later you have to come out of hiding, face the world and hop back into whatever your next task is. The rest of weekend was great! So even if your days starts out messy you can still have some success!

What do you do for fun?

Last night I went out with my “Red Hat” friends for our monthly get-together. One of the ladies picked an awesome new Italian Restaurant and I must say my Almond Encrusted Perch was to die for. The waitress made a great wine selection for us and we ate and drank for almost 3 hours sharing stories, telling jokes and just laughing and having fun.

When I came home I felt totally rejuvenated and alive!

The reason I’m sharing this is that too often we get so busy with all our daily activities, family, job, business, church, school and everyone and everything else we have to answer to and for that we don’t make time for us!

So, stop what you’re doing right now, call a friend and make a date to get together for lunch, dinner, coffe, movie or whatever it is that tickles your fancy. Don’t wait until you are burned out, stressed out, fed up and ready to shoot the next person who asks you a question.  Save your sanity by taking a much deserved break today.

My Favorite Daily Prayer

Someone shared this prayer with me over a year ago and I typed it an put it with my daily reading materials. I must say, this prayer has helped me get through some very challenging and sorrowful times. Take time to read it and I know it will become one of your daily inspirations.

“Dear Lord, I thank you for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I’m blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe from all danger and harm! Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.

Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things.

Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God’s eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing, and receive the forgiveness of God.

And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus’ example — to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It’s the best response when I’m pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can’t pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will.

Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those who are lost and can’t find their way. I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don’t know You intimately. I pray for those who don’t believe. But I thank you that I believe.

I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers and for each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.

I pray to understand there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly.

This is my prayer. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Thanksgiving Tribute to My Parents

On this Thanksgiving Day I would like to share with all of you the Special Letter I wrote to my parents. I hope you’ll enjoy it and take time to be thankful for all you have.

Dear Mom and Dad,  As I thank God for all the years we have had both of you I wish to share the influence you have made on all of us. These are just a few of the wonderful life’ lessons we have learned from you.

To Believe in God, our family, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy and miracles.

To have Faith that no matter what happens we can get through things together. We are never alone as long as we have God in our hearts and family by our side.

To Cherish family & friendships above all. Things are just things but family and friends are treasures that last forever.

To Hope for a better future for all. To hope that those we love will live long and healthy lives.

To Give to those who are less fortunate than we are. It doesn’t matter how little we have there are always those who have less than we do. You will be surprised at what you can do without when you are giving to others.

To Encourage others as often as you can. It’s OK to shout and cheer at games and activities. We need to let everyone know we are there!

To Celebrate every holiday, birthday, graduation, promotion, wedding, and new baby together. It’s not always easy but it is always fun to have the large family gatherings. The stress of preparation will give way to the joy of togetherness.

To Forgive others for the things they have said or done that may have offended or hurt us. To ask God’s forgiveness for the times we have let Him down.

To be strong when you need to and mushy when you can’t. If mom can cry at Hallmark commercials I can too!

To Love unconditionally. Love can overcome anything. Hugs and kisses are OK for everyone! That as long as there is love in your heart you will never be alone in our family.

To Give Thanks and count our blessings not our misfortunes. There are always things to be grateful for even in difficult times. To give thanks to God every day for all of our blessings.

To Pray to God for the strength to live each day as if it was our last. To pray and prepare so when our time on earth passes we may be reunited in Heaven.

 I Love You!
Karen

Family Love

Most of you don’t know that I come from a large family of seven, five girls and two boys. I am blessed to still have both of my parent’s as well as my husband Larry’s parent’s here with us. Larry and I have two wonderful sons and I couldn’t ask for better daughter-in-laws. Oh, by the way, have I showed you the latest picture of the apple of my eye, my grandson, Nickolas? Tomorrow we’ll be celebrating our 37′th wedding anniversary and my mom and dad will be celebrating their 59′th. I look at all I have and I know how I am blessed to have such a family to love. Families are the best! We’re having family pictures taken  so watch for some soon!

At my seminars this past weekend I asked everyone to share what they were thankful for in their business. Everyone, without exception said they were thankful for the new friends they made in their business. They all felt the people they knew from their business was like another extended family.

Isn’t it wonderful to belong to something that instead of being a number, you are a person? That’s what each and every one of you have when you belong to a Direct Selling Company. The friendships, support from your upline and company, people to travel and have fun with, hostesses and guests to party with. What a wonderful place to be!!

Christmas in our new home

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas and that you took time to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family.  We finally moved into our new home on December 16′th and the move was not without it’s challenges. For all of you who are running a business from your home you know the challenges that come from being without the technology we are used to on a day to day business and that was the hardest for me to handle. Wow, I never knew how dependant I am on the internet and telephone until I had to go without both of them for a few days. Of course had I been given all the proper information when I called for the installation it would have probably went smoother. After five trips out to the new house our tv’s and our internet are finally working! For all of you who tried to email or contact me forgive me if it takes awhile to catch up. Our new office phone number is (248) 625-4897.

We are loving our new home and after one week of staying up late and getting up early we had unpacked enough and had our tree and a few decorations up. We had family over for Christmas Eve and Christmas day and had an enjoyable time relaxing and entertaining.

We are still unpacking the 12′ x 42′ storage area over the garage and figure if we take one box a day we will clean it out in about a year! I tried to part with some of my treasures I had accumulated over the past thirty years of living in our old home but I don’t think I got rid of enough! Hey, you never know when you might need that thing-a-majig.

Anyway, we are in, and slowly but surely we are getting back to normal around here. I think I’ll be here for another thirty years because moving is not my cup of tea! Enjoy the rest of the holiday week and get ready to have a tremendous 2007!

I’m Living my Dreams Again!

Well everyone, most of you know that I am a firm believer that we can get everything in life that we set out to get. I am realizing another of my dreams and goals on December 16′th! We’ll be moving into our new custom home that we have been building since May. It seems like it has been forever since we first decided last January to build a larger home to have room for a larger office, plus space for Larry and I to go to stay out of each other’s way since he retired June 1′st. Of course we have an extra bedroom to accomodate all of the essential baby equipment that comes along with being a grandma and grandpa to ten-month old Nickolas!

This home is exactly what I have been visualizing over the years! It’s spacious and airy and the view of the 15 acres of woods off the back of our yard is magnificent. We’ve done only a little to the landscape so far and the rest we will finish in the Spring but I know where the waterfall and pond will be and I know where the swimming pool will be. You see, I envision them everyday!

How well are you visualizing what you want to happen in your life? You do understant that you are receiving exactly what you have been visualizing and seeing yourself receiving! If you are not receiving what you feel you are worth than it’s time to start focusing on what you want to happen, rather than what you don’t want to happen. We can’t change the economy or the attitudes of people around us but we can change ourselves and what we are attracting. Our mind is powerful and God has provided us with an abundance in this world. It’s time you began to claim your abundance!

Remember, most of the time the six inches between our ears is the only thing that is stopping us from achieving our dreams! Clean the cobwebs out of your head and move forward beginning today!
